Our Review Methodology
How we evaluate products — source-attributed, transparent, and clear about what has and has not been tested hands-on.
How We Research Products
BenchPicked builds product pages from manufacturer specifications, verified affiliate network data, public user-review patterns, and clearly attributed editorial research. We do not make first-hand product claims unless a product has been physically tested by BenchPicked.
Source Attribution Standards
Every source-driven page separates manufacturer data, third-party verified information, public user-review consensus, and BenchPicked editorial analysis. Product specifications are attributed to their source, and claim boundaries are stated before a buying recommendation is made.
When hands-on testing is available, the page states what was tested, when it was tested, and what evidence supports the conclusion. When it is not available, the page stays within source-attributed specification and research boundaries.
How We Make Buying Recommendations
Source-based recommendations compare five practical questions. A product can suit one reader and not another; a recommendation does not imply first-hand performance testing.
Use-Case Fit
Do the documented capabilities meet the intended use, and which limitations matter for that use?
Source Quality
Are the model, specifications, dates, and claims traceable to named sources? Missing details remain unknown.
Ownership Cost
Compare purchase price, consumables, subscriptions, and required accessories over a stated period. Unpublished costs are not treated as zero.
Compatibility & Care
Check size, device or regional compatibility, setup requirements, cleaning, and replacement parts against the intended use.
Purchase Terms & Alternatives
Compare the available warranty, return conditions, seller terms, and alternative products. A lower price is not automatically a better fit.
Content Quality Standards
Before any page can be indexed, it must pass a content quality check that verifies:
- ✓ Source completeness — core specifications and claims are tied to named sources
- ✓ Attribution accuracy — manufacturer, retailer, network, and public-review data are not mixed together
- ✓ Wording boundaries — source-driven pages do not imply first-hand product testing
- ✓ Author transparency — editorial ownership and relevant review responsibilities are clear
- ✓ Decision clarity — recommendations state who a product suits, its limitations, and what remains unknown
Editorial Independence
We earn revenue through affiliate commissions when you purchase through our links. However:
- ✓ Commission and approval data can influence which products enter commercial research, but not whether a documented claim is treated as true
- ✓ Reader-facing comparisons use the stated evidence, use case, ownership cost, compatibility, and purchase terms
- ✓ We include non-affiliate purchase options in every price comparison
- ✓
All affiliate links are clearly marked with
rel="nofollow sponsored" - ✓ FTC disclosure is displayed before the first affiliate link on every page
AI Transparency
BenchPicked uses automated research, normalization, content preparation, and validation systems. Publication controls are based on traceable sources and deterministic quality checks:
- ✓ Source records, claim boundaries, page identity, affiliate disclosure, and content-quality checks are recorded before publication
- ✓ Claims without sufficient attributable evidence remain unknown, are narrowed to the source statement, or are withheld from publication
- ✓ First-hand testing is claimed only when the specific test, date, method, and supporting evidence are documented on that page
